Roka Akor provides a beautiful modern take on Japanese food. With a wood fired kitchen open to view in the middle of the restaurant, Roka Akor provides a great ambiance on top of amazing food and service. My girlfriend and I decided to do the decedent omakase and it was exactly as described. With 5 courses we left absolutely stuffed. Each course had a few dishes served during it. The appetizer course started with a nice small serving of toro, a seared beef dish and fried oysters. Th beef with truffles was really nicely balanced staring with an earthy note in the front, followed by the taste of the beef and the cut of acid from the picked veg it was wrapped in. The next course was the sushi course. With 2 kinds of nigiri, 5 kinds of sashimi and oysters, this would be the highlight for the sushi lovers at the table. The rich piece of Toro was the highlight for my party. The next course was the fish dish. A perfectly cooked piece of Chilean sea bass rested on too of a light celery puree, and topped with some sort of berry sauce. This was the highlight of all dishes (not including the deserts). The fish was complemented by broccoli which was roasted over the open fire and had a nice wood fired flavor that shined though the rich umami flavor of the sauce it sat it. The second to last dish was a filet mignon topped with miso butter and served with a pot of mushroom rice. The steak was cooked perfectly and the miso butter added a nice nutty flavor to the steak. The rice was very tasty too but by this point I was so full it was hard to have any more of that. The highlight of the entire meal was the dessert plate. This dessert was enough to serve maybe 5-6 people. There were three different kinds of gelato/ice cream/sorbet, one better than the next. The chocolate lava cake was rich and descendant but the best part of the dessert was a passion fruit tart that we left no crumbs for. That tart of one of the best desserts I've had in a very long time. I would highly recommend the decedent omakase for anyone who wants a well rounded and delicious Japanese dinner.

This meal was delicious and each time we go here they knock it out of the park! Our server, Paulo was amazing. He was super attentive and took great care of us. He was polite and quick and anticipated all of our needs. The place is gorgeous, waters are always filled, and visually gorgeous but each dish was delicious on every level. I love recommending this place.

Celebration dinner, had the Omaske menu. Overall great tastes, flavors across the items. We had a couple of McCallan drinks which were nice (though the first one we ordered tasted terrible, and they were nice enough to replace). Service was attentive, the Ambiance is nice. Overall a good experience for Japanese food in Chicago.

went here with a group of friends, and we ordered the sushi and sashimi special, which was brought out beautifully presented in a family style format. I felt comfortable with consuming raw fish because the fish was fresh as could be and presented on ice. The conversation among our group was easy, and the server was very friendly and accommodating. I would recommend this place for an adventurous group dinner with friends!

Had such a lovely birthday here! The staff wrote a sweet card and a complimentary dessert. The genmaicha tea with toasted rice is my new favorite, I will be purchasing some to drink at home! Very light and flavorful with the toasted rice. The tuna flight and prime skirt steak were the best! We tried to save a little money by choosing our options vs omakase but the regular maki sushi rolls are just ok, I'd recommend biting the bullet if you can and just going for more nigiri flights, omakase, or steaks. The prime skirt steak melted in our mouthed and it was so flavorful and juicy. Easily top 2 steak I've ever had. Fatty tuna nigiri is always so good and can't go wrong. Have to come back and try the omakase!

Omakase is the way to go. Husband and I did the Decadent Omakase, and we both loved it! Some items were on the menu, and some were just created by the chef. This was such a fun experience! The service was great, both the waitress and the man that changed out the plates were excellent! The decor is a modern vibe, and there's an open kitchen with a charcoal fire. First course was Prime Beef Tataki, Toro Tartare, and Tempura Oysters. The first two are on the menu, and the third is a new creation. My favorite was definitely the toro, but the other two were great too. Everything was devoured happily. Second course was nigiri and sashimi. It was a mix of tuna, toro, and king salmon. Everything was fresh and delicious. Third course was sea bass with cherries, charcoal grilled broccoli rabe, and tempura lobster. This surprised us, but the broccoli rabe was spectacular. If you did this to every vegetable, no child would ever say they hated vegetables. I love lobster, especially tempura is my weakness, but that broccoli rabe was the star of this course. It's not on the menu, and it definitely should be. Tempura lobster was delicious, and the sea bass was good too. Fourth course was Mishima American Wagyu Sirloin (6oz), Bone Marrow, Truffle Aioli, Japanese Mushroom Rice Hot Pot with Black Truffle. The sirloin had the wonderful charcoal flavor, and that was scrumptious. The bone marrow toppings made it so good, but I have no idea what crack they put on it. The truffle aioli was a nice complement to it. The rice pot looks small, but it's all a trick. It's like the Harry Potter trick where you reach into a bag and can pull out a house. There's an abundance of mushroom rice, and this put us over the top. The rice was nice and very filling. Fifth and final course was a dessert platter. Molten Chocolate Cake with Nuts, Creme Puff with Matcha Cream, Sorbets, and Assorted Fruit. I absolutely loved the chocolate cake, because it was perfectly balanced. It's not too sweet, but wonderful chocolate flavor, and the nuts hidden on the bottom added the perfect texture. (I'm definitely stealing that idea when I make molten cake at home.) Cream puff was interesting, and I liked the matcha filling. The pastry could have been a tad bit softer, but I'm just being picky. The sorbets were both fantastic, especially as a palate cleanser. My favorite fruit was the dragon fruit. Very wonderful way to end the meal. This place is amazing. You should definitely do the omakase. Highly, highly recommend.
